UX Strategy Skillset

Help stakeholders become user-focused

After successfully completing both the Mastering Business Models course and the Mastering Value Propositions course from Strategyzer.com, I created a process that uses modified versions of their tools in order to:

  • Understand the company business model
  • Align the company internal teams with the business model and the value/s the company offers to its customer segments.
  • Break down each customer segment into the jobs, pains and gains that customer is experiencing.
  • Break down the company's value propositions and how they fulfill the jobs the users need them to do.
  • Perform user research to discover and align user needs to business.
  • Using the data uncovered from the workshops, transform the client requirements list into a Functional Needs and Elements that can be used in design sprints to design data-informed digital products that meet business goals through exceeding user needs.
  • Create UX KPIs based off of user research

UX Deliverables created:

  • UX Business Model Canvas
  • Customer Segment Profiles
  • Value Proposition Canvas
  • User Research using methods such as:
  • Interceptions
  • Surveys
  • Polls
  • Paper prototyping
  • Card sorting
  • Tree testing
  • Functional Needs and Elements List
  • UX Focused KPIs

Help internal teams create usable, functional digital products

The deliverables created by working with stakeholders becomes the foundation for internal teams as we use design sprints to build the digital products. Here are the stages used in a design sprint process I created and what deliverables are created at each stage:

Initial Vision Stage - Team meets internally to discuss topics such as timelines, assets, and constraints as well as signals that other teams such as PR, Social, or Marketing should be brought in for early collaboration.

Prototyping Stage - MVP is sketched, wireframed and low-fidelity prototyped. UX testing is performed. After meeting and getting approval, product is moved into next stage.

UX Deliverables created:

  • Wireframes designed in Sketch
  • Prototypes created with InVision
  • Documentation on prototypes
  • Content Matrix to serve as content tool for client
  • Information Architecture sitemap
  • Data gathered from testing

Design Stage - Prototypes are professionally designed into high-fidelity mockups and prototypes. Color palettes, fonts, photos, and other media are inserted into the designs and can be tested and viewed in interactive prototypes. Only after successful testing and client approval does the product move to the next stage of building.

UX Deliverables created:

  • Data gathered from testing

Build & Launch Stage - At this point, the designs and prototypes are moved into Phase 3 and handed over to development who will build the actual digital product section or feature. Immediately after that sprint ends, the next begins, selecting the next feature or section of the site. Once one sprint ends and that feature or section of the digital product is live, it is monitored and tested for 1 - 3 months to measure success.

UX Deliverables created (Examples):

  • Heatmaps
  • User Videos
  • Surveys
  • Polls
